About Tony Hunt - Mortgage Advisor

Financial services has been my career since 2001 — nearly 25 years now, with the last 19 of those spent specifically as a mortgage broker, helping people find the right mortgage and protection products for their situation.

Before that, I started out in textiles, working as a production planner at Coates Viyella in Alfreton. It wasn't the most obvious route into mortgages, but it taught me a lot about planning, process, and getting things right first time — all of which comes in handy when you're guiding someone through what's usually the biggest financial decision of their life.

The Mortgage Store itself started up in St Albans 20 years ago, and I've built on that foundation to bring the same approach to clients here in Oxford — straightforward advice, no jargon, and a genuine focus on making the journey to a new home as stress-free as possible.Away from work, life is rarely quiet. I've got 4 children, 3 chickens, and 6 rescue cats keeping me busy at home.

In my spare time you'll usually find me either behind a microphone as a radio DJ or in the kitchen cooking — two hobbies that couldn't be more different, but I love them both.

At the end of the day, what drives me is simple: helping people get into their new home, and making sure the process feels a lot less stressful than it has any right to be.

Frequently asked questions

Is Tony whole-of-market or tied to certain lenders?
Tony is a whole-of-market broker, which means he can search across a wide range of lenders rather than being limited to one bank's products. This gives you a much better chance of finding a deal that actually suits your circumstances, rather than whatever a single lender happens to offer.
How long has Tony been a mortgage broker?
Tony has been in financial services since 2001 and has worked specifically as a mortgage broker for almost 19 years. He's CeMAP qualified and has helped clients through everything from first-time purchases to complex remortgages.
What areas does Tony cover?
Tony advises clients across Oxford and the surrounding area, working as part of The Mortgage Store network. Wherever you're buying, get in touch and he'll be able to let you know how he can help.
What happens at the first consultation?
The first chat is all about understanding your situation and what you're looking to achieve. Tony will typically cover:
  • Your budget and deposit — what you can realistically borrow and put down
  • Your circumstances — employment status, credit history, and any complexities
  • Your goals — first home, moving up, buy-to-let, or remortgaging
  • Next steps — what documents you'll need and a realistic timeline
There's no obligation, and it's a good opportunity to ask any questions before you commit to anything.
Does Tony charge a fee?
Fees vary depending on the type of mortgage and the work involved, and Tony will always be upfront about any charges before you go ahead — there are no hidden costs. He'll explain exactly what you're paying for and when, so you know where you stand from the outset.
Can Tony help with protection as well as the mortgage?
Yes. Alongside mortgage advice, Tony can talk you through protection options such as life insurance and income protection, so you're covered as well as housed. It's worth discussing at the same time as your mortgage, since it's often more straightforward to arrange together.
How quickly can Tony get things moving?
It depends on your circumstances and the lender, but Tony aims to get an agreement in principle sorted quickly once he has the information he needs, so you can start viewing properties or move forward with an offer with confidence.
